Ian

After nearly four years as shop manager, Ian has given notice that he is to leave the shop. His last day is the 9th December. I am sure that we all recognise the enormous contribution which he has made to the shop’s prosperity over recent years. He has steered us through some difficult times together. By adding new and exciting products, he has overseen one of the most successful periods in the shop’s recent history. He brought his particular skills to the role over several years and we have all benefitted as a result of his dedication and hard work. We are extremely grateful to him. We wish him and Donnally all the best for the future.

Looking ahead, we are very pleased to announce that Fee Collyer will be taking over from Ian. Fee is well known to us all and we all look forward to working with her. For those of you who do not already know, we also welcome Sharon Mason, (née Whitlock) who has taken on the roll of treasurer

Passionate about your community shop?

West Tytherley has had a shop for longer than anyone can remember. For decades it was family run. In 1994/5, as a legal entity, it became an association of members and a community store. At that time over a hundred local people took out membership. Lifetime membership cost £10 a person and many people also made additional donations ranging from £50 to £5,000.

Since then, there have not been many new members. Many have passed on or moved on. People who have come to the area in recent years may not be aware of the membership scheme. If you are a member, it entitles you to speak at meetings and to influence the operation of the shop. You can then be appointed to the Management Committee. You can have your say. More members now will mean more members in the future. Without a sufficient number of members there would be no association. It still only costs £10 for life. Although next year this may rise to £20, which is still less than what £10 in 1994 would equate to today. Additional donations are always welcome in whatever amount.

Please join us and contribute to a positive future of our community shop. Membership forms are available in and should be returned to the shop. Payment can be made in cash, cheque or transfer.

New Garden Café

Our outdoor area has been converted into a café built where possible from eco, re-cycled and fair trade materials.

We offer a range of delicious drinks and tasty snacks to enjoy in lovely, green surroundings whilst being kind to the environment.

Our cups are taken to a recycling unit and our pods are recycled using the ‘podback’ scheme.

Huge thanks to Pat Baretto who has volunteered her time to lead and make this project happen with the help of other villagers. Special thanks to Mrs Mitchell for the plants generously donated.
